The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
