The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.

While perhaps not at the same level as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a current administration.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”

The event, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The pig, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A Future Secured

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
