The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh installment, confirmed by the BBC.
An upcoming six-episode series created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.
The actress expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."
The previous series wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven begins with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to become a sexual predator.
Yet, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the background, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless fans watch the developments of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a new season."
He added: "Corruption in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.
Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "As we count down the unit return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
Show History
The drama launched in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will premiere.
