The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Horror Merging Silent Hill with Among Us Gameplay
The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several fascinating upcoming titles, but one especially has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.
"This is a unique experience where a girl containing multiple human souls within her needs to flee from a maze of the mind," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.
Entering a Shattered Consciousness
In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of high school age. Inside her exist four distinct souls, each with their own anxieties and motivations. These entities can seize control at will, unleashing their innermost terrors upon her without warning.
Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the narrative unfolds within a eerie hospital, though additional clips depict the protagonist navigating a desolate church.
A World of Individual Dread
"What are you afraid of? What causes you uncomfortable?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that seem trivial to others can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that idea — anxieties that are specific to every individual."
The central gameplay loop revolves around managing whichever soul emerges at any given moment. However, these souls will change involuntarily during gameplay. While exploring, each soul's anxieties become amplified and assault the girl one after another. As the persona changes, so does the particular terror the player experiences.
Eerie Visuals and a Fatal Decision
At first glance, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with nurses who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide grins. Figures in the lobby have large blooms where their heads are. Flowers are an ever-present element, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.
Yet, UN:Me presents a singular mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls inhabiting the heroine is the "true" one. "Each of the personas claims that the body belongs to them," notes a developer. "During the game, you must determine who is authentic."
After a player have deduced a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. However, since every entity can lie or obfuscate the truth, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.
"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," the narration states. "The final entity standing might be a fraud. In any case, your decisions are final."
UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced launch window, but it is available to follow on platforms.
