The former Liverpool manager admits a return to lead Liverpool is conceivable.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that a future comeback is a possibility. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-year spell which brought continental glory and the Premier League crown for three decades, now holds roles in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed England's top flight last season, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would welcome the idea of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he explained to the podcast host: “I declared I refuse to lead another team on English soil. So that means in case it's my former club...yes. It's plausible.”
“Being 58, that means the choice could be mine in a few years, who knows. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I can just see how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about which situations would have to unfold to draw him back to the dugout, he confessed he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; No desire to be under bad weather through long matches; I don’t miss going to media briefings repeatedly each week or constant media duties each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, yet sharing a meal with the players enjoying conversation, that’s nice. We won a lot of games meaning regularly positive atmosphere at the club. Remaining with me is the captain's chuckle ringing in my ears to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
He spoke highly for his successor, crediting him due to the changes which secured the championship last term. They've been defeated four in a row in every contest post heavy investment, but he rubbished the suggestion that it might signal a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. Ekitike, incredible player. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
He shared movingly about the death of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, along with the consequences at the club. The forward lost his life in a vehicle collision alongside his brother in July.
“Who can fill the void of such an individual? It goes beyond his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the dressing room without him in it. I find it difficult to discuss about it. A profound tragedy for the entire squad also. No one within the club might employ it for poor performances though it's a fact. Being in that space where he was omnipresent. Coping with it emotionally is challenging. Impossible.”
