Shock as Popular South African DJ Gunned Down in the Heart of Johannesburg.

A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a nation struggling with entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the central business district on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the 40-year-old entertainer was confronted by three suspects, one of whom opened fire on him before running away.

The purpose of the attack has not been established and no one has been arrested have taken place, police said.

Details of the Attack

Authorities said that Stock was targeted as he was departing from a location close to the city center landmark.

He had devoted time at the building managing the setup of security systems, which had been reportedly taken over by unknown people, it was reported.

"Authorities believe the deceased was confronted by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before escaping on foot," a police statement stated.

Security camera video reportedly captured a man with dreadlocked hair and wearing what looked like a security uniform shooting on Stock before running away.

The DJ tried to run away after he was hit but fell down on the opposite side of the road.

It was further revealed that Stock had an gun that was not fired and no items were stolen during the attack.

Important clues, like spent shells, were found at the scene.

Call for Public Assistance

Police have appealed eyewitnesses who may have witnessed the attack to come forward.

"Our information indicates they walked a long distance after the shooting, and officers have been tracking them to determine their location," added an official.

His family member, Nicole Stock, stated the loved ones are reeling to understand the tragedy.

"Words fail me. I cannot express the pain," she said.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He spoke out bravely about issues not many people were willing to speak about. This is a tremendous loss."

She requested the public to refrain from sharing disturbing footage from the incident, saying this was an incredibly difficult time, particularly for Stock's children.

In a communication, the channel he worked for said Stock was known for his magnetism, kindness and sharp wit, adding that his influence "will endure".
