Iran Claims Assault on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Widespread Counterattacks.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a significant and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is unclear and the United States has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - reported they have shot down missiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on Iran launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted locations associated with the the regime, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the government.

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with high efficiency and shot down a number of missiles," it added.
The statement noted missile fragments fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
