Police have released concerning video depicting a motorist performing risky skidding techniques around a traffic circle during an unauthorized vehicle gathering, placing onlookers at grave risk of injury.

Judicial Ruling for Reckless Driver

A 23-year-old from Southampton was given a jail term of 27 weeks, suspended for 12 months, after pleading guilty to reckless operation of a vehicle.

In addition, the judge imposed a 12-month driving ban and ordered community service along with a behavioral course.

As stated by police officials, the recording was filmed at an unauthorized car meet in the city on December 28th, 2024, showing the driver driving a pink BMW.

“The video demonstrates the alarming moment when a reckless motorist drifted around a traffic circle at an unauthorized vehicle event, as spectators looked on despite the danger of serious injury.”

Wider Crackdown on Unauthorized Car Meets

Police representatives reported that over two hundred violations involving unauthorized vehicle events in the area have been handled in just over a year.

• Sixty-nine demerit points awarded
• 4 drivers banned from operating vehicles
• 76 on-the-spot fines given
• Fifty-four prosecutions brought to trial

Authority Comment

An officer commented: “Residents, motorists and our roads policing teams have had their fill with these crowds of drivers selfishly occupying streets and car parks and we will not tolerate it.”

He added: “These events are not only a complete nuisance, but they also place participants and uninvolved individuals at risk of serious injury.”

He finished: “Our efforts will persist to take legal action against these drivers and I trust these recent cases serve as a warning: you won’t get away with it.”
