British Designer Antony Price, Renowned for Designing for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer behind many legendary styles worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.
He was celebrated for his defined forms and performative fashion, such as the pastel suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."
This news arrives shortly after he presented his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by Princess Diana.
A Lasting Legacy
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he started his work in menswear at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.
He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to blend menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in designing sculptural silhouettes made him a "genuine original," according to the UK's fashion authority.
During the nineties, he started creating outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as various looks for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.
With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in partnership with the label 16Arlington.
