Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Major Extension for Two More Seasons.

Last October, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network introduced a completely new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. At a time often characterized by dark humor, this show's earnestness struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and championed its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about following this endearing family navigate their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its current sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to experience the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
